In February, Beyond Nations embarked on an endeavor that we thought was enough to make a difference: establishing Pleroma Schools – Gayaza Campus. We celebrated this milestone, proud that children were studying on full and half bursaries. Little did we know, we were about to learn a profound lesson.
As the children arrived at school, we were dismayed to see them dozing off within minutes of starting class, some even falling asleep at 8:30 am. Break time came at 10:00 am, expecting the children to have breakfast, but we soon realized they had nothing to eat. Only a handful had food, surrounded by classmates begging for even a morsel.
During lunchtime, the situation persisted. Some children were absent from afternoon lessons as they went searching for wild fruits to survive. We couldn’t stand to see them suffer. Prompt action was needed. We decided to provide free porridge and lunch to every child. The first day, a child ate only a small portion, saving the rest for their hungry family at home.
This heartbreaking reality reaffirmed our commitment: all children deserve access to food, water, and education. With your support, we can extend a helping hand to those in need and uplift entire communities. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children, ensuring they have the resources they need to thrive.
